For a healthy diet some specific rules must be followed. Fast foods should be totally avoided including fried foods, chips, and cookies. A food which sounds nutritious may not be always good for health. Generally some fat free and natural foods destroy the diet and supply the body with above average calories. Here are few such food options that should be avoided.

1. Salad

The main drawback of salad is that the dressings add hundreds of calories to the dish, which can result in an unhealthy condition. The vegetable packed dressings should be checked before ordering a salad, as recommended by Keri Gans, a registered dietician and author. Generally restaurant dressings have more calories compared to a candy bar and you should not allow more that 60 calories of salad dressings.

2. Smoothies

Smoothies like a mixture of blended fruit and yogurt may sound like a health diet but according to Tara Miller, a registered dietitian, nutritionist, and founder of an organization called Achieve Balance Wellness and Nutrition; these type of smoothies should actually be avoided as it contains a large amount of carbohydrates. Specially the smoothies of quantities 16 to 32 oz sold at the specialty shops are a matter of warning to our health. You should use lesser amount of carbohydrate and add vegetables in smoothies whenever possible.

3. Soy Milk

For those who cannot tolerate lactose products, soya and almond milk is considered to be the best option. But the fact is many people like the flavored milk ignoring the excess sugar intake along with these flavored foods. It’s recommended to buy the unflavored milk and add a teaspoon of vanilla essence for taste.

4. Granola

Granola is considered a healthy food for breakfast. But generally granola is rich in sugar and contains low amount of fibers. So while buying granola from market, you should check the label carefully and buy those which contains at least 4-5 grams of fiber.

5. Muffins

You may find bran muffins in your nearby coffee shop. But these muffins should be avoided as it contains a high amount of fat which are required to hold the bran together. The fat-free muffins should also be avoided because of the extra amount of sugar.

6. Sushi

Sushi is a Japanese seafood which consists of tuna, salmon, and other varieties of fish. This kind of food should only be taken if it contains very less amount of cheese, cream, and mayonnaise. You should also stick to less than three rolls and use brown rice as far as possible.

7. Turkey Burgers

If you like to eat burgers then turkey burgers are generally considered next to a healthy food. But before going for a turkey burger, you should check if its made from the dark meat with the skin as a base. The dark meat and skin contains a very high amount of calorie and is not worth eating. If you are preparing it yourself, always use meat with less that 10 grams of fat.

8. Frozen Meals

Frozen meals are very popular because it can be made very quickly and easily. But according to Angelo Ginn, a registered dietician, these meals are packed with sodium, which is unhealthy. Although these foods are less in calories but the sodium factor also cannot be ignored. So if you are going for frozen meals, make sure that these food items are without sodium.
