Are there any low calorie food recipes in the Indian food?

Are there any low calorie food recipes in the Indian food? I am searching for such Indian food recipes that will help my taste buds and won't let me put on weight and add on to the calories simultaneously. Which are my options for the recipes I am searching for? Can you suggest some other low cal recipes and alcohol beverages that go well together from any other cuisines? I'm not going to drink excessively, but I and my friends should be able to have at least a few. Me and my friends will be out for at least 3 or 4 hours. What should I have? What do you suggest?

Yes, certainly there are many recipes in Indian food which are low in calories. In fact, the simple home cooked food is low calorie food in Indian cuisine. It is decorative, party dishes that are deep fried and are full of butter which make for high calorie food. In that sense you have numerous options to go with.

You can go for plain daal (pulses), lightly sautéed green vegetables like beans, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, etc along with chapatis made of millet. Plain daal, without heavy tadkas are full of proteins and B vitamins. Green vegetables which are cooked in little oil are equally healthy with negligible calories. Likewise, chapatis made of millet or raagi (finger millet) are full of calcium and with very little calories. Chapatis made of wheat are high in calories since they are carbohydrate rich but the chapatis made of millet or ragi do not have much of carbohydrates and hence they are low on calories.

You can try various kinds of daals and various green vegetables daily along with an assortment of salads. You can also try cottage cheese curry without butter or ghee. Remember, the cottage cheese must be made of skimmed milk and you are good to go.

Besides, clear soups made in Indian way are also great fillers with very little calories. Remember that ghee (clarified butter), butter, desiccated coconut and deep fried foods like fritters, deep fried cottage cheese pieces, etc are the culprits in Indian food otherwise simple home cooked Indian food is equally tasty and sans calories.

You can go for wines and vodka so far as alcohol is concerned.

All the best with your holidays and have fun!!!
