What should I call food in Spanish?

I am a Spanish guy, but then I don't know how to speak in my dialect from the beginning I have been speaking English. So, Spanish is more or less like a foreign language for me. My mother has kept a Spanish maid at our house whom she got with her from Spain. Sometimes when my mother goes out, I am unable to communicate with her as she only understands Spanish. At such times when I feel hungry, I am unable to convey my thing to her. What do I call food in Spanish so that she understands that I need to have food?

In general, the Spanish word for food is "comida".But, if saying only "comida" doesn't help, you should elongate yoursentences to make your emotion more clear to her such as:

You should say Necesito comida, which means "I needfood".

"Necesito comercomida" for I need to eat food or if you want to say:

I am hungry, Could you please give me food?, this goes inSpanish like this-

Tengo hambre, ¿Podría usted por favor darme la comida?

Oops! that really went long. But, even if you will say Tengohambre, I am sure your Spanish maid will understand what you really need.

I think you need to learn Spanish so as to communicate withyour maid better, however if it isn't possible you should download English toSpanish dictionary or translator in your mobile. So, every time you need totalk to your maid, just translate it on your cellphone and ask her right away. And if you can't do it either, I think the sign language is the best and thelast option to go for:)

I hope this answer helps.
