Although the doctor has suggested not to be anxious about my health, as right eating habits would help me keep my blood sugar in control, but still I want to know of diabetic foods list which would help me understand what food is beneficial to me, and what food should be avoided? Could somebody please help with this list?

Diabetes is a life-long disease which cannot be cured, but can be effectively controlled. Insulin is the hormone that controls the blood sugar. Inability to produce this hormone or any resistance in the body toward this hormone can cause diabetes. As the blood sugar is no longer regulated, you have to regulate it through your diet.

There are certain types of food that can help you to control your diabetes like oats, barley, whole grain products, lentils, peas, plums, peaches, avocados, lettuce, french beans, tomatoes, soybeans, onions, garlic, bitter gourd, cucumbers, cabbage, mushrooms, chicken eggs, seeds, olive oil, sunflower oil, spinach, carrots, all types of cheese except cottage cheese, yogurt and chicken.

There are many foods that you must avoid, as it can raise your blood sugar level rapidly. These foods are refined and fried foods, sweets, honey, white rice, white bread and pasta, food high in sodium, too much alcohol, sweet wines, beer, fruits like sugarcane, mango and chiku, coconut, starchy vegetables like potato, sweet potato and yam, sweets, soft drinks, chocolates and juices.

It also very important for you to exercise regularly and eat small meals at regular intervals. This will avoid the accumulation of sugar in your body and keep your diabetes under control. If you follow a strict diet plan, you can enjoy a healthy life in spite of your diabetes.
