Museum of Kyoto exhibits 1200 year-old Kyoto cuisine
A recent report shows that Museum of Kyoto in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto exhibits the complete history of 1200 year old Kyoto cuisine. The exhibit titled as 'Traditional Food Culture in Kyoto--The history and charm of Kyoto cuisine and vegetables' comprises of 90 exhibits and is displayed in the form of a Time-line with the introductory history of the Kyoto cuisine in separate historical sections, which depicts the evolution of food and the dished that were served in different time periods, in formal tea parties and gatherings. There is a separate section displaying vegetables, tofu, Japanese Confectionary and contemporary tofu creations based on bukkade udon tofu.

Apart from recipes and food items the exhibition also features stuff that complements the food of that era and this includes two books "Meigetsuki" by Fujiwara no Sadaie and Tofu Hyakuchin. The former is a diary which portrays the themed-dinner parties in the Kamakura period (1192-1333) and the latter is on the discovery of more than a hundred tofus in the Edo period. The exhibition also features the painting of Maruyama Okyo, again depicting the dinner parties in the Edo Period. There were crockery used only on special occasions and wax models of the ethnic culinary traditions may be because they were lost or cannot be reproduced.
The crown of the exhibit will be the lecture that will be delivered on April1st. This is the costliest culinary exhibition that I have ever witnessed with 1000 yen as entry fee for adults, 700 yen for university and high school students and 400 yen for middle and primary school students. I do not think the culinary giants can afford to miss this educative exhibiton that would be open until April 6th, for them to explore.
