Could I have Pernod and white rum in my mixed gin drink?

Should I experiment with gin at home and make some interesting gin mixed drinks. My friends tell me it can be dangerous. What is your opinion? What do you say if I mix splash of blackcurrant in along with white rum with a dash of Pernod and in it, prepared to serve a king, will it be good idea, how much should be the amounts of the ingredients? I want to try it but am afraid of ending up in a hospital bed. You can share your variations too, with me.
