Is five food groups system available online for free?

I am simply not able to keep a check on what kind of foods should I give my 4 years old kid to eat, and what I should avoid giving them, as at times the nutritional information mentioned on the foods packets confuses me? A friend advised me to check for five food groups, as it tells about the nutritional value of foods that we eat. I assume it would be therefore useful to me, as I would be then able to keep a track of nutrients consumed by my child in a day. I would really like to know if five food groups system is available online free of cost? Thanks.

Yes, the five food groups system is available online free of cost and they can be found by a search on Google.

The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) formed the five food group system on a plate as shown to explain better regarding the diet and nourishment to be provided to children and adults as per their age.

The plate is divided into four sections comprising of fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains and a portion outside the plate meant for dairy products.

One glance at the plate and it becomes obvious that vegetables have to be given in large portions followed by fruits. It is also important that the child must be fed more grains than proteins.

For your four years old child, the following nutrition is required:

Grains : 4 or 5 slices of bread or 2 to 2 1/2 cups of cooked rice.

Proteins: 3/4 or 1 cup cooked dry beans or 3 to 4 eggs or 3 to 4 table spoons of butter

Vegetables : 1½ cups

Fruits : 1-1½ cups

Milk : 2 cups

The five food group system as explained above must have cleared some of the doubts regarding the nourishment for your child and you can get more details from the web page given above.
