Are food steamers healthy in preparing food?

My mother-in-law has advised me to buy a food steamer to steam or warm food rather than using microwave for it. I don’t have a food steamer and I would like to know a few things about it before buying. I want to know what all materials does a food steamer come in, and how healthy is using it for preparing food! Can somebody please advice appropriately? I would be really thankful!

Steaming is a method of cooking using the steam. Steaming is considered to be a healthy cooking technique which is capable of cooking all kinds of food. Overcooking or burning food can be easily avoided when steaming it. Health conscious individuals can prefer steaming to other methods that require the use of cooking oil resulting in a lower fat content. Steaming will also result in a more nutritious food than boiling because fewer nutrients will be leached away into water which is usually discarded. A0 USDA comparison between steaming and boiling the vegetables shows that the most affected nutrients are folic acid and vitamin C. When compared to the raw consumption steaming process will reduce the folic acid content by 15%, and boiling by some 35%. Steaming will going to reduce the vitamin- C content by 15 percent. I am sure this would help!
