Healthy salads to satiate your palate

Healthy lifestyle is slowly becoming a norm in everyone’s life. People are incorporating more fruits, vegetables and juices in their diet and, increasingly following a fitness regime to stay healthy. Sudden transition to boiled, steamed, or even raw vegetables can be very frustrating for all those health-conscious people. However, if the food options are turned slightly variant, colorful and exciting to your taste buds; the results can be phenomenal.

Salads can be a very healthy option, if fresh, crunchy vegetables or fruits; combined with nuts are customized superbly with the choice of your dressing. A few quick combinations that you can try:

1. Chickpea tossed with crunchy walnuts

Ingredients: Soaked and boiled chickpea, lightly toasted and crushed walnuts, chopped cucumber, tomatoes, nice and pink onions, finely chopped cilantro.

For the dressing: Tahini (1 tsp), Olive Oil, cayenne pepper, salt, lemon juice or vinegar

Procedure: Take all the ingredients in a salad bowl and toss it well with the dressing ingredients.

Voila! You are ready to grab your favorite healthy meal for the day! Here’s another fruit and nut salad, that’s appetizing and sure to challenge your taste buds.

2. Fruit & Nut Salad

Ingredients: Seasonal fresh fruits cut in fine cubes (preferably pineapple, green apple, strawberries, pears, oranges, peaches, figs), dry fruits like raisins, walnuts, almonds, pistachios.

For the dressing: Honey, a dash of lemon juice, yogurt, and olive oil.

Procedure: Whip the yogurt until nice and creamy with the honey and lemon juice. Mix it fairly well with the fruits and garnish it with chopped nuts. Your fruity and nutty salad is ready for you to gorge on.

Salads are great for a good health. They are wholesome, nutritious and light and can be teamed up with almost anything available in your kitchen. You just need to work on your creative self.
