How can I get proper protein from vegetarian cuisines?

I am pure vegetarian and last night when I was talking to my friend he told me that the people who don’t consume meat suffers from lack of protein in their diet which causes lot of problem in long run. I want to know is this true? Can anyone tell me the names of such food which are good in protein and healthy? Is it really true that I can’t get the protein in vegetarian cuisines which are available in meat and other non vegan cuisines? It will be really nice if anyone can tell me that how can I get proper protein from vegetarian cuisines?
