Cheese is an excellent source of Calcium, Protein and phosphorus; however, it is also a major source of saturated fat. The regular cheddar cheese contains around 9 grams of fat in every ounce, out of which 6 grams are the saturated ones.
Cheese is available in a number of varieties and of course, there are some cheese that are naturally lower in fat. Neufchâtel, part-skim mozzarella, farmers cheese, string cheeses are some that are low in calories. Studies have shown that the Goat cheese is much lower in fat and contains fewer calories less than cow's milk cheese.
A number of common cheeses are easily available in the reduced-fat form. Some of such reduced-fat cheese includes Jack, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Monterey, Brie, Colby, Swiss, American and Muenster. The lower-fat cheeses are usually milder in taste and flavor and often have a rubbery texture. However, you will definitely find some brands of reduced-fat cheese that are actually very good like the Cabot cheese.
