What would my recipe convert into if I used the dry bread crumbs instead of the day-old bread?

I have a mushroom soup recipe and a mexican beef soup recipe with me that instructs certain things that I am not getting at all and am confused about it, and thus I am here seeking your help. Will you please tell me if the recipe is calling for three cups of day-old bread which needs to be cut into one inch cubes then what would that recipe convert into if I used the dry bread crumbs? What do you have to say about my situation and what should I be doing about my recipe?
