Tomato sauce is one of the easiest sauces to make. It will take some time (few hours, to be precise) depending on the quantity of sauce you want to make and the consistency you prefer. But you can have the pleasure of enjoying your favorite sauce, homemade and tasty, and free of artificial agents.
Ingredients (to make approximately 4 cups of tomato sauce):
10 large tomatoes
1 medium-sized onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, minced
¼ cup olive oil
½ tsp basil
½ tsp oregano
Salt
Ground black pepper
Sugar (optional)
Procedure:
Immerse the tomatoes in boiling water. Keep them in for 2-3 minutes. It will help loosen the tomato skin and make them easier to remove. Take the tomatoes out with the help of a slotted spoon, rinse in cold water and keep them aside. Once the tomatoes have cooled down, peel and cut into halves. Now scoop out the seeds.
Next, take a large pot. Pour in the oil, add the onion and garlic. Saute them till the onion turns soft. Put in the tomatoes. Add the rest of the ingredients. Wait for the mixture to start boiling. Then turn it to simmer and leave the pot uncovered. Now let the sauce cook on its own, only stirring it from time to time. It can take two to three hours for the sauce to attain your desired consistency. Once it is done, remove from heat. Your tomato sauce is now ready to be canned or frozen as per your preference.
