Basically it depends on the type of dish. Some dishes are healthy and some are highly caloric. Thai Beef Salad for example is very healthy. So are, mostly, all the salad dishes (such as the one with marinated squid, etc.) Satay is indeed very healthy if you go light on the peanut sauce. Those spring rolls which are NOT fried are healthy. However, the curries made from coconut milk are in fact very fattening (coconut milk is almost all fat.) Some dishes, even with meat, have sugar (Hot/sour/salty/sweet are the balance of flavors that are supposed to be in every Thai dish.) Pad Thai is very caloric (those noodles are carbs, and the sauce does not seem low-fat.) But overall Thai cuisine is the healthiest food you can get and in fact, several Thai Dishes, such as Tom Yum Soup, are currently under scientific study for their incredible health benefits. Spices used in Thai cooking – such as Turmeric, Galangal, Coriander, Lemongrass, and Fresh Chillies – have immune-boosting power, aid digestion, slow aging, lower cholesterol level and improve circulation. As far as vitamins in Thai food are concerned then it is known that Thai consumers top the world as the biggest consumers of Vitamin/Dietary Supplements.
