Can anyone tell me tomato chutney recipe?

I am making vegetable cutlets for my children and I was thinking to make tomato chutney with it at home as I don’t want them to consume readymade tomato ketchup abundantly. I want to know tomato chutney recipe and I want to know what kind of tomatoes are best to be used for this purpose. How much time will it take to prepare and what are the things that I can add to it for giving it a readymade taste?

It is a good idea to make tomato chutney at home. Especially for kids as it is best they eat little of ready made and packaged foods.

When you make tomato chutney at home you can add as much or as little chilli as you want. The nice red ripe tomatoes are the best for making chutney.

Recipe

Ingredients

Tomato - 5 big, ripe

Onion - 1 medium

Green chilli - 2

Garlic - 3 cloves

Oil - 1 tbs

Salt

Blanch the tomatoes. Chop them and remove the seeds. Finely chop the onions, green chillies and the garlic. Heat oil in a thick bottom vessel or sauce pan. Add the garlic and green chillies and saute for 30 seconds. Add the finely chopped onions and saute till they turn light brown. Add the tomato and salt.Cook till the oil splits and forms a nice thick gravy. Remove from heat and allow it to cool completely. Transfer the content in to a blender. Grind to a smooth puree. Add little water if needed but if you want it to have a thick consistency then avoid adding it. Taste and adjust the salt. Transfer to a serving bowl. Serve with hot cutlets. This can be stored in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days.
