Can you tell me about few traditional, yet simple French foods?

My boyfriend's mother has come to live with him in Richmond. He is from France, and I have planned a dinner for him and his mother this weekend. I want to make the most of it, and thus I have come to you guys for some help regarding french foods. Could you guys tell me about some traditional yet simple recipes, as I won't have too much of time to spend in kitchen? I would really appreciate your early response. Thanks.
