Before answering your question let me tell you frankly that I am not at all aware of the fact that there is a concept about feeding vegan food or vegetarian diet to a dog. Seeing your question I carry out research on the net and find various sites where people mostly experts on animals are telling contradictory things. It makes me confused. But which I realized in a nut shell is that pet animals like dogs have such an anatomical build up that is fit for taking and thriving on meat products.
The canine teeth of dogs are designed in such a way by the nature that these are suitable for eating a diet which is largely comprised of animal tissues. Moreover, dogs have short intestinal tracts compared to other herbivore and human. This indicates that dogs are not designed naturally to accommodate diets containing large amount of plant material. Besides, the need for protein and calcium is higher in dogs than a human. Only through animal derived ingredients these nutrients can be found. Some plants are full of protein but amino acid content is not sufficient in them to have a proper food balance. Apart from this, carnivore like dogs need vitamin B12 for nutrition which a vegetarian diet mostly based on plants can't provide.
As I have said earlier, there is opposing thought of this too. You are a vegetarian, but why want to make your pet which you love, vegetarian one too? I think providing your dog with daily natural non veg diet will be good for its health. Decision is yours. Thanks for listening. Bye.
